Mission

The Southern HIV/AIDS Strategy Initiative (SASI) is a broad-based coalition of HIV/AIDS Advocates and their supporters lead by the Duke AIDS Legal Project at Duke University School of Law.  SASI applauds the White House and the Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP) for the National AIDS Strategy and the initiation of the 12 Cities Project.  There is an urgent need, however, to take the next steps towards eradicating HIV/AIDS.

SASI is developing research-based policy and strategy recommendations aimed at securing a federal commitment for the next steps in the implementation of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy.  The evidence is clear: The Southeast has the highest rates of both new HIV diagnoses and HIV deaths, as well as poor social determinants of health.  SASI seeks a federal commitment to develop models of integrated HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment for rural, midsize, and urban communities typical of those in the Southern region of the United States.
